ATH shares a heartwarming story about Mr. Gage Taylor, who found solace in hunting following his mother's passing from ALS. Diagnosed in 2022, she lost her battle on September 14, 2024. Though it has been challenging since then, Mr. Taylor discovered peace in hunting, a passion he has cherished since childhood.
After two years of chasing a buck he believed to be 4-5 years old, Mr. Taylor finally spotted him on the opening day of rifle season, but the deer was 350 yards away. On November 28th, 2024 he was given another chance. He took the shot, but when he attempted to fire again, his gun clicked three times, leaving him out of bullets. Surprisingly, the buck walked back toward him, ultimately collapsing 50 yards away.
Overwhelmed with excitement, he called his father, who was nearby but struggled to communicate through his joy. The night before the hunt, he had found one of his mother’s ALS shirts and decided to wear it for good luck, feeling that she had chosen this moment for him. Mr. Taylor's story is a poignant reminder of how hunting can serve as a tribute to loved ones, bringing comfort and connection even in their absence.

To be eligible you have to have an ATH Hat, Shirt, or sticker on in the photo with your harvest when you submit it to us, along with photos of all measurements during scoring. At the end of the year winner will be selected by rack score.
